How to Get the Best Offer on a Large Collection
If you send a dealer, with whom you haven’t previously worked with, a list of 1000 comics, they are unlikely to price them all. Here’s an option.
Pick out 10-20 items that are representive of the collection and send them around and ask for quotes. Dealers are much more likely to respond if the request doesn’t require 10 hours of work. You can compare these quotes to Ebay and guage if you’d rather do the work yourself of have a dealer do it for you.
WE DON’T CHERRY PICK!
One concern many potential sellers have is that a dealer will cherry pick their collection, i.e. pick out the best comics and then leave them with the less desirable ones. It’s a genuine concern, and it’s something we advise our clients to avoid. One advantage of working with us is that we don’t cherry pick, we buy it all, or we buy nothing (unless the client only wants us to buy certain parts of their collection). Obviously we pay proportionately, meaning, we pay appropriately amounts for your Key comics, and for your common comics. It’s important for you to know this going in because it really makes no sense for most collectors to be left with, or hold onto a bunch of commons. First off, they’ll be very hard to sell from that point forward, and then there is the reality that comics, unlike cards, do take up a lot of room if you have a multitude of them! Keep your collection intact, a serious dealer will buy them all!
